(DES MOINES) – This week Rep. Renee Schulte (R-Cedar Rapids) joined Gov. Terry Branstad in signing a historic piece of legislation, setting a framework for changing Iowa’s mental health system.
Senate File 525, which provides a blueprint for the redesign of adult mental health systems in Iowa, passed both the House and Senate unanimously.
“For too long some of Iowa’s most needy who suffer from mental illnesses have fallen through the cracks. Our state’s system was broken,” said Schulte. “I’m proud of the bipartisan work that was done to bring about this much needed reform.”
Additionally, the bill addresses children’s mental health services and creates an interim committee to establish a plan for revising disability services for adults.

Renee is the daughter of Dallas and Carolyn Grant of Danville, IL. She is a graduate of Danville High School.
